Footfall and Occupancy Counting
Footfall, occupancy and presence answer different questions about a space. Entry and exit counts describe movement through a measured point. Occupancy readings describe how many people the sensor reports in a space. Presence readings show whether a room is in use. TruCount Pro can bring those readings together across buildings and sites.
Use the measure that fits the question. An entrance count helps a team look at arrivals and departures. An occupancy reading helps it review how many people are in a measured space. A presence reading helps it see when a room is used. The available readings depend on the sensors connected to the site.
How it works
Give each entrance or room a name that makes sense to the people reviewing it. Check a recent reading and confirm whether the sensor reports entries, exits, occupancy or presence. Choose the corresponding measurement when setting up a rule. Use the dashboard for current readings and time filters to review activity over a specific period.
Set up the dashboard around the people who will use it. The operator checking conditions needs to find the relevant site, group and sensor quickly. The person responding to an incident also needs the time and reading that caused the alert. Agree on clear names and use the same names in rules so those two views make sense together.
Example alert rule
Set a high threshold for a space with an occupancy sensor and choose a persistence period appropriate to the team's response. When the condition persists, notify the duty contact. That person can check the reading history, acknowledge the incident and assign someone to review the space. Set a clear condition so the team can recognise when the reading returns to its expected range.
Review readings and coordinate a response
Decide who should receive an email and who will take ownership when an incident opens. Acknowledge it to show that someone is responding, then assign it if another person needs to investigate. During planned work, use a maintenance or suppression window where appropriate. After the work, check that the expected readings are arriving again.
When reviewing an incident, use a time window that includes readings before the alert and after the condition cleared. Keep the measurement and unit consistent so the comparison is meaningful. A CSV export lets a colleague inspect the same readings, while the incident record keeps the response and assignment visible to the team.
Frequently asked questions
Can I review entries and exits separately?
Yes, when the connected sensor supplies those readings. Label the sensor with the entrance it covers so the counts are easy to interpret.
Is footfall the same as occupancy?
Footfall measures movement. Occupancy measures how many people the sensor reports in a space at a point in time.
Can I monitor presence without a headcount?
Yes. Presence is supported as a reading where the connected room sensor provides it.
Can I look back at a specific period?
Yes. Filter historical readings by time and use CSV export if the same data needs to be reviewed outside the console.
